What is Radon?
Radon is a dangerous gas that occurs from the natural decay of uranium in the ground. It is odorless and colorless and cannot be detected by human senses. As radon decays, it emits radioactive particles that are inhaled by normal breathing and cause damage to cells in our lungs.
Over time, exposure to radon gas can lead to lung cancer. In fact, it is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. and causes over 20,000 deaths per year. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the World Health Organization (WHO) consider radon to be a carcinogen and a major health hazard with long term exposure. They recommend mitigation for radon levels of 4.0 pCi/L or higher.

Radon levels vary from house to house. Even if levels in one home are low, they may be extremely high in the house next door. And newly built homes with Radon Resistant New Constructions (RRNC) can still have high levels of radon without fan installation by a mitigation specialist.
